Student News GSTA Student Reminders: Use Student Agenda’s to plan and as a pass at all times. Carry your Student ID daily. Be in full uniform everyday. GSTA Super Star Readers: Congratulations to 6th and 7th grades for improving their overall reading level in one week. Data from Read Theory was used. Keep up the good work. GSTA Super Star Mathematicians: Congratulations to 7th grade for highest overall scores in mathematics skills. Data from ALEKS was used. Keep up the good work. 8th grade Magic Mountain Night is Friday, May 18th: To qualify for this event, you must clear all detentions, absences and Library/textbook Fines. See Mr. VC for most current lists. Tickets are on Sale now at the GSTA Office. Testing Season is Soon Approaching: Be sure to get plenty of rest and eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school. GOLDEN GLOBAL GATOR SHOUT OUT goes out to Nathan Chavez, 6th grade, for 7th grade we have a tie between Erick Bailon and Candy Avila, and Yarely Ulloa, 8th grade for scoring the highest reading level at GSTA. TEACHER SECTION TO DO: Attendance not Submitted: Memo were placed in your box for Attendance not Submitted. Please complete and return to R. Guerrero by 1pm on Tuesday, 4/24/18. Mailboxes: Staff, you have two mailboxes assigned to you, one in the Welcome Center and a second in the GSTA Office. Please check your boxes daily. Lesson Plans Due: Reminder to all staff, lessons plans are due in Schoology by 8am, Monday. Homeroom/Block 7 Lessons: Please have students work on ReadTheory.org and/or ALEKS during block 7. Both are online programs to help students with reading and math skills. SBAC Release Questions Practice: Copy links of SBAC release questions into folder in Schoology to use as warm-ups with students. ELA and Social Studies will work on ELA release questions. Math and Science will work on Math release questions. You will find the release questions in http://sampleitems.smarterbalanced.org/ Technology Tip: Quizlet (Live) is a great program to use for vocabulary review. INFORMATION: Instructional Update: LD East Instructional Foci this year is on the following areas: 3b1: Quality and Purpose of Questions Questions are designed to challenge students and elicit high-level thinking. 3b2: Discussion Techniques and Student Participation Techniques are used to ensure that all students share their thinking around challenging questions. 3c1: Standards-Based Projects, Activities, and Assignments Standards-aligned learning activities cognitively engage students in the lesson. 3c3: Selection and Use of Available Instructional Materials, Technology and Resources The materials and resources for the lesson promote cognitive engagement for all students. 3d3: Effective Feedback Students receive specific and timely feedback that will move their learning forward. Global Studies & Technology Academy Instructional Foci this year is on: 2a3: Academic Climate The classroom environment is safe and supportive; risk-taking is encouraged, students freely contribute their ideas, and students mistakes are treated as learning opportunities, never with ridicule.
